New Foods & Recipes

Weight Watcher sure has made us try new foods, such as Tuna. Check out this 4 point meal...

I marinated the tuna in

2 tablespoons of lemon juice

1 tablespoon of olive oil - 4 points

1 teaspoon of soy sauce

a tiny bit of garlic

salt and pepper

Put it in a Ziploc bag and let it marinate for about two hours.

Take them out put them on the grill, they taste just like a pork chops.

Broccoli tossed in 1 tablespoon of olive oil - 4 points

salt and pepper

a little bit of garlic

roasted in the oven

And crowder peas with onions

So the whole meal was 8 points, divided by two 4 points for dinner.

My weight watchers journey...

How the journey began...

Well I guess before we start this, you need a little backstory.  Paul and I live in a great old home, with only one full length mirror. In our bathroom there’s a small mirror over the sink, all I can see in that is my shoulders and face. In the bedroom we have a beautiful armoire that has two large mirrors.  But the only time I see myself in those mirrors as when I’m fully dressed.

I had a little neck issue about two years ago and then Pneumonia at the beginning of this year (not excuses just facts). Those 2 things really changed my activity level.

We took a trip to New Orleans in May, and stayed at a cute little hotel in Mobile on the way.   As I stepped out of the shower there was a mirror in front of me and one behind me - OMG, (This is the Back story I was talking about...).  As I looked in the mirror that day I thought "I don’t recognize that person, And she doesn’t look very healthy". As I emerged from the bathroom I told Paul, sweetheart there is some fat lady in the bathroom with me and I don’t know who she is. 

 About two weeks earlier I had lunch with a friend of mine who was telling me all about the new weight watchers plan, she talked about no points foods.  She had lost nearly 40 pounds on the plan and said they had an app for your phone that made it easy.  

Those of you who know me know I don’t have a lick of sense when it comes to electronics. So that evening I asked Paul to load the Weight Watchers app on my phone.   App loaded and then step two, I needed to have a starting weight, I have not weighed in almost 2 years. The next morning before breakfast down to the gym we go (they always have a scale in the gym). To our surprise no scale in the gym. I’m not starting this program unless I have a starting weight. I didn’t want to lose 1 pound and not know about It!

  There were two ladies at the front desk. I inquired if they had a scale, she picked up the phone and called maintenance.  A nice young man from maintenance came down and said yes we have a scale I’ll get it for you. Mind you we were in the lobby of the hotel with 2 women behind the counter, 2 women having breakfast directly behind us and the maintenance guy comes out carrying a huge hospital scale.  It’s a pretty heavy scale and he sat it down right in front of the counter, I’m thinking to myself I’m fixing to get on the scale in front of six people.😳😳😳😳 .

Yes you ask, I stepped onto the scale. Thinking to myself "I will never see five of these people again in my life and Paul loves me no matter what the scale says". I could almost hear the drum roll in my head. It was one of those scales where you have to slide the little weight.  When the little arm stopped moving 158 was the number it read, 158, no wonder my knees hurt. You see I’m only 5’2”. A healthy weight would be from 110 to 135  and I was knocking on the door of 160.

Speaking of 160, this December I will turn 60. I made a decision in May that I would be the healthiest 60 I could be. So I started this journey, I don’t consider it a diet, it’s more like feeding my body the things it deserves. It’s about making better choices, healthier choices.  OK I’m not gonna lie, I’m amazed at how cute my butt looks in smaller jeans.
